At FCD we believe that safety doesn’t happen by accident. A healthy safety culture requires constant and ongoing work in targeted areas.
This is why we have implemented our Safety Leadership Program, a program designed to constantly monitor, audit and improve safety outcomes across our organisation. Safety Leadership is all about embedding safety behaviours and principals into personnel and equipping them with the skills and courage to lead these behaviours in the field, even under difficult circumstances.
At its core the program consists of 4 types of interactions – take time talks, planned task observations, critical control observations and layered audits. These interactions are used to monitor the present state of understanding in the field and build the knowledge base within work teams.
Effective safety leadership ensures that the Senior Management team attend field works to engage directly with the work crews. This allows the Managers to role model safety compliant behaviours that set the benchmark of what is expected from the team, including monitoring and providing feedback on employee performance.
Safety Leadership has already proven to be a hugely valuable tool in managing safety outcomes in our day to day operations and will continue to be the cornerstone of our safety culture as we move forward.
